Despots of the Messpot: Arab Winter Alternate Timeline

The period that began in 2011 initially known as Arab Spring, but more commonly today referred to as Arab Winter, will forever be looked at as a time of great frustration and failure. A time when he Arab people’s popular democratic outbursts were cut short for the sake of status quo and stability. Often compared with the European Revolutions of 1848 the Arab uprisings have come to be seen as a time of great societal and cultural change but of little political achievement. Many look back on this time have asked many questions: Why were these uprisings defeated? Why were despots able to maintain power? Where was the West? What went wrong?

Hey,

Any interest in this? Should I continue?

The inspiration for this ATL was the latest discussions in chat on Arab Spring. Many posters have expressed interest in debating what would have happened had Arab Spring and the various Arab leaders remained in power. This ATL will attempt to explore a total failure of Arab Spring and the results. It will be in effect the opposite of my pervious Sultan Erdogan ATL that took the Arab revolutionary movements to their limit. I’m going to try to keep the timeline middle of the road and give a good view of both sides.

All comments and ideas welcome.:)
