Despot of Epiros

The Greek Despot of Epiros, Theodore Doukas, captures Constantinople from the Latins. He maintained friendly relations with Bulgaria, rather than fighting and being defeated by them. What happens now? Do the two Greek states fight each other or go their separate ways?

The population and wealth of Epiros were small, and it would take an enormous effort to get to Constantinople, over difficult terrain. Taking Constantinople would have to be a lucky fluke, and they would be unable to hold it, so the result is that the city gets even more destroyed than it was, Epirus likely falls apart, and this could possibly be good news for Nicaea.

Actually, if we're talking about pre-1230 POD, Doukas would have much more than Epiros - actually, looking at the map there's uncany similarity to 1340 OTL Byzantine borders (includes Epiros, Macedonia, Thesally and southern Thrace). Although, even if Bulgaria stayed friendly to Doukas, the Roman Empire under him would still have problems with Serbs, Nicea, Latin principalities in Greece and most likely whoever rules south Italy - be it Hohenstaufs or Anjou...
