Denmark becoming a hanseatic puppet

Is it possible that Denmark becomes the Latin Empire with Venice's role filled by the Hansa? In OTL the Hansa got a veto right in the Danish Royal elections, in the 14th century, but never used it. How can he Hansa actually use that right and put German nobles on the throne?

Well, you'd surely have to have a much larger and stronger Hansa for that to work. IOTL, if they tried that, the Danish king would probably conquer a few of the closest cities...

Getting an expanded Hansa shouldn't be too hard - they'd have to expand beyond purely German lands, though. Copenhagen is literally "Merchantsharbour" etymologically, so one could see the city becoming part of the league, rather than its enemy.

Also, get them to actually be a federal entity with federal taxes and military (rather than a rather loose league of city-states).

The last time Denmark tried taking on the Hanseatics before the OP's proposed veto, Denmark ended up blockaded and starved into submission. It's possible that the balance had swung dramatically by then, but perhaps now.

Maybe they become so rich, that they sponsor the bribe money for the election like the Fugger did (so the then elect Emperor is in debt).
