Democrats got a majority in both House and Senate 2014

There's a reason I used the word "conservative", as opposed to "Republican". They're not the same thing.

I would still say that (1) the ACA was significantly different from Heritage's proposal, and (2) in any event Heritage's idea got no traction with most conservatives (including but not limited to Republican members of Congress) until *some* (by no means all) of them embraced it as an alternative to Hillarycare or single-payer. Saying, as is often said, that the ACA was "originally a conservative idea" or "originally a Heritage idea" is IMO therefore misleading, even though there is some overlap in ideas. (Saying that it is similar to Romneycare is much more accurate, but I would not call Romneycare a conservative idea.)

Okay fine. We'll put all those asterisks on it if it'll make you happy. But however many qualifications you make, the ACA is still a lot closer to right wing ideas than left wing ones. And it's the product of a president who's considered moderate to conservative by everyone except the people that hate him (including the man himself).

Which brings me back to my point of Mr Obama, having the benefit of a Democratic majority in Congress, enacting policies that are closer to the right wing side of the spectrum in an attempt to triangulate or be bipartisan or whatever it is he's trying to do.

They had one in 2008, what did they do? Enact a few watered down versions of conservative ideas *cough* ACA *cough*. In this case, I see a grand bargain on social spending, an extension of the patriot act, and some other mildly right wing things to do with spending and the war on terror.

There would be a few Democrats fighting back who might be progressive. I would say a likely PoD would be various scandals being paid attention to. It might help if some Tea Partiers got their way in the primaries.
