Southern Democrats reject the provisions of the 1960 party platform on civil rights. They stage another "1948" style revolt, and run Russell of Georgia and Thurmond of South Carolina on a States Rights ticket. Therefore the presidential election is thrown to Nixon/Lodge. Could the southern conservatives therefore start a regional party instead of joining the Republicans as they did in 1964?
