Fall, 1900
Wilbur Wright stood shakily on the deck of the fishing boat, the rain was poring down, the wind was howling and the waves were coming all over the deck of the rather pathetic flat bottomed schooner. But this was the only way he was going to get to Kitty Hawk, but now he was genuinely scared for his life, and more importantly him and his brother's dreams of flight. All he was going there to find out whether or not the site would be acceptable. Suddenly a huge wave crashed over the deck of the schooner. Wilbur barely had time to yell for help as the boat flipped into a wave and tossed him over the side. With no life jacket on and heavy rain gear he did not have time to even try to swim. Wilbur drowned short minutes later off the coast of North Carolina, mere miles from his destination.

When Orville Wright got the telegram from North Carolina he thought that it would be a happy invitation for him to come down and join his brother to begin their experiments. But as he read it he discovered a very different kind of surprise, this one not terribly pleasant. He had to read it twice before it finally hit him, his brother had died on a schooner trip to Kitty Hawk. The Life Saving Station at Kill Devil hills had discovered the body of Orville's brother two days after the schooner sank in a storm. Orville had a decision to make, he could abandon the project all together or continue on his own.

The day that Orville arrived at Kitty Hawk was a sunny day, it was still about 50 degrees, and it was windy. It was seemingly perfect conditions to fly his glider. He had told the men of the Life Saving station what he was going to do and how they help. He would be manning what was essentially a giant kite with a human on it. This meant that the men of the Life Saving Station would have to hold ropes to keep the plane under control. They let it go at about eleven in the morning, Orville immideatily rose up into the sky. Then a gust of wind pushed the nose straight up, one of the ropes snapped and the glider took a turn to the right and nose-dived into the sand. All the men present ripped through the wreckege to find Orville lying there amid the twisted wood and canvas. He would die several hours later.

So what happens next? Desrigarding any plausibility or implausibility of both Wright Brothers dying within weeks of each other.
