"Potrait of the Madman Who Saved Us All", by Cornell Hawthorne, 1723
Throughout history, the act of piracy already made its way into this world just as man began to enact commerce via the seas. Time to time, many regions became hotspots of such acts, ranging from the Mediterranean seas, to the oriental seas, where the Wukou regularly clashed with the ships of the dynasties of the east. However, as these acts mainly fell into the category that paints it as a petty crime, piracy only offers money, and faint hues of glory, with chances of marking your name in the annals of history being a rarity, with few figures actually able to do such act. With the progress of technology, and the birth of new ideas in this world, the concept of piracy suddenly mainly attributed to the Arabs, as the Barbary people made piracy as their main source of income. Things, eventually changed as the discovery of the new world, and the abundance of gold on those regions creates opportunities, for men who decided that attacking ships, and looting what's left from those ships-might be their best bet to gain the very same thing with the colonial powers, which is gold, and glory. With aspects of gospel following in behind.

The island-laden region of the Caribbeans easily became the hotspot of piracy, with many men eventually slowly becoming a prominent force on the world of piracy. Starting from Jaques de Sores's burning of Havana, the act of piracy eventually considered as serious threat, which is accompanied by the eventual growth on the popularity of the act, leading to the eventual golden age of piracy, where the seas of the Caribbean were filled with blood, wrecks, and stories from the ships that passed by.

When Henry Avery established a base on the island of Nassau in 1696, Nassau easily became the epicentrum of piracy, with the arrival of figures such as Benjamin Hornigold and Henry Jennings becoming the spark to the fire that will light the pirates for eras to come. Establishing a "Republic" where they could live freely, not under the control of the crowns of the old world. The pirates, and the people who decided to follow them to the Republic of Nassau, enjoyed a certain amount of prosperity, with the creeping truth that their freedom would not last longer. The decentralized command system of the pirates of Nassau led to buccaneers with lesser experience and ranks being able to command their own ships, and breaking the established rule of not attacking ships that bear the Union Jack, fearing the might of the Royal Navy.

With the assault against the Royal Navy becoming more severe and destructive each time a raid is launched by the pirates, George I, the king of the Great Britain, decided to appoint Woodes Rogers as the Governor of the Bahamas, to end the golden era. With Woodes Rogers setting sail to the Americas in 1718, the real fight against the kings of Europe is just getting started.

The Ranger, previously owned by Benjamin Hornigold, eventually given to Charles Vane in a unknown date.
Atlantic Ocean
7 July 1718
Deciding to patrol the seas, in a drunken stupor, Charles Vane ordered his men to head towards the Atlantic seas, which is something even Henry Jennings seldomly do. Despite filled with confusion, his crew abides to the command, knowing that Vane's temper is something that is more unsavoury than a rotten bread. As the Ranger sailed the seas of the Atlantic Ocean, their sights eventually are perched on a group of ships, flying the Union Jack. With the composition of the group slightly alarming the drunken Charles Vane, whose decision-making capabilities are solely based from the glass of booze he's been chugging for hours. With his cloudy eye, and plugged ears, the last thing Vane done before dozing off-is none other to head back to Nassau, with a scribbled note in the paper detailing about the convoy he just saw-in his hand.

With the Ranger set on full sail towards Nassau, the world will saw on how a band of individuals that society rejected, turns into what defines the era, and changed the world forever.

Chapter One: In Hornigold We Trust

Charles Vane, Calico Jack, and Benjamin Hornigold arguing regarding Hornigold's proposed plan
The fact that Charles Vane spent most of his day, months, and years under alcohol made everyone's judgement upon his words, when he arrived at Nassau, telling everyone that a British convoy is heading towards Nassau. Everyone, obiviously dismissed this as another of Vane's antics. However, when Benjamin Hornigold expresses his trust towards Vane, chaos nearly filled the group, as disbelief and confusion filled their minds. The one that is the most vocal one regarding Hornigold's statement is none other than Edward "Blackbeard" Thatch himself, who looked upon Hornigold as a mentor figure. Blackbeard's respect, in the end, is slightly diminished afterwards, as Blackbeard never thought that his mentor somehow had the slightest thoughts on believing words that came from Charles Vane. When Anne Bonny discovered the note that Vane is holding on his hands, the debate is ended shortly afterwards, with everyone eventually gathering at the Queen Anne's Revenge, in a civil, and calm manner.

With a map of the world laid upon their eyes, the pirates found themselves questioning the authenticity of Vane's words, with a common opinion that this means that sooner or later, they must leave Nassau, as the grip the empires of Europe had over the Americas are becoming more stronger, day by day. Many planned to give in, and many planned to escape. So does Hornigold. For years, he had been planning to give in, and betray his friends-a thought that he's been trying to suppress for more than a year. But now, as he looked upon the community he had build, Hornigold realized that the little, bumbling town of Nassau, his "Pirate Republic", is something worth fighting, and even dying of. There, as everyone argued for the best plan, Hornigold proposed something else far more..questionable.

There, he proposed that the pirates should intercept the ships, which irks Calico Jack and Charles Vane, as he believed that Hornigold's plan were utterly suicidal. Thoughtless. The fact that nobody even truly knew where the ship actually heading to-further worsens Hornigold's position, and credibility, that this day somehow managed to shatter. There, the meeting ends, and the pirates continued with their daily activities, with Hornigold secretly orders the crew of the Ranger, and his own men to patrol the seas, evidently showing that Hornigold is deeply paranoid regarding the British fleet that Charles Vane mentioned.

Woodes Rogers arriving in Nassau, accompanied with his troops
Nassau
22 June 1718
There, Charles Vane's words turned into reality. Woodes Rogers, the rumoured governor of Bahamas is on their doorsteps, with the three warships positioned to block Nassau, proving Charles Vane's words. The patrolment does not yield a thing, and now, so does the negotiation in the fort. For seconds, Hornigold's mind are scattered, but now, he's got a plan.

Asking a moment to slip away from the group, Hornigold, alongside with Josiah Burgess, John Cockram, and Blackbeard, goes towards the Old Avery Tavern(1), where they connocted a plan that possibly change the face of history forever. Much to Blackbeard's dismay, Hornigold planned on seizing the ships that is blockading Nassau, while killing Woodes Rogers's entourage in the island, as Hornigold is planning to evacuate the entirety of Nassau, with a unclear destination. As Blackbeard's voice and opinions were drowned by Hornigold, whose intimidating speech tone easily shrinks any chances Blackbeard to speak back. There, Blackbeard gathered his and Hornigold's men with the help of Cockram, Josiah Burgess starts to alert the populace quietly, regarding the sudden plan, and Hornigold returned back to the fort, with his flintlock at hand. And at this very point, Hornigold realized that having Levasseur's help-might be his ace, but now, he must face reality, as he is walking towards the governor of the Bahamas, with flintlock at hand, ready to stir more problem with George III.

As Hornigold assesses the situation, he could see that-if he shot Rogers at this very point, he, and his compatriots, could have a time to escape, or even take out Rogers's bodyguards, if Rackham, Bonny, and Kidd could react, and realize fast enough. With fear filling his mind, without any further hesitations, Hornigold tapped Rogers's shoulders and shot the man point blank in the head.

"And then, Benjamin just simply shot the governor in the noggin', not caring about the fact that there's eyes looking at him, and gun barrels."
-Taken from Jack Rackham's diary

Just before Rogers's two bodyguards could react, Rackham and Kidd, alongside with few buccaneers under Blackbeard's command came to cover Hornigold, as a small, but short skirmish ensues, with the numerically superior pirates winning the fight. This, does not hinder Blackbeard, as the Queen Anne's Revenge, Ranger(2), and Benjamin headed forward, and to finish what Hornigold have started. Intending to board the ship-in full swing, Blackbeard ordered his men, and the crew of the other ships to directly ram the enemy ships, ready for the hell waiting for them. As the ships began to crash, and the pirates began to board the unsuspecting enemy ships, Hornigold, and any able pirates boarded the Royal Phoenix, in order to help their compatriots.

Time goes by, and the pirates achieved their victories. There, they buried the dead, and celebrated the miraculous minimal losses by partying like it was never before. As night fell upon them, Blackbeard realized something's wrong. As he walked to the Benjamin, he knew that this is not over, and he knew, that soon, they will pay for their sins.

His eyes were perched on the skies, and Benjamin Hornigold is restless. Now, his chances to return to civilization were over. Now, he must deal with the choices he have done, as he realized that those twenty souls who died to wrestle the control for those three ships.

Hornigold's mind, however, is nursed back into a total focus state, as Blackbeard called his name, and as he remembered about the rumour of Christopher Condent, sailing to the east, which sparks a little idea in him.

Dressed in Woodes Rogers's garments, Hornigold handshakes Blackbeard, before he began to inform Blackbeard about his next plan.
