WI: Saladin died suddenly after the surrender of Acre in 1191. His remaining armies rapidly lose the will to resist the crusaders. Jerusalem is de-fortified and easily occupied by Richard I of England. When Richard departs, Henry of Champagne is King of Jerusalem. The question is defense. Most of the troops killed at Hattin in 1187 were native born. The reconstituted kingdom is there fore very short of manpower. Then there is the question of the Jordanian castles such as Kerak, which were vital to the defense of Jerusalem. Do the military orders take over the primary role of the defense of the new kingdom? How does this change the operation of the government and the distribution of land ?
