Defeated united states Louisiana purchase

Could a defeated United States be forced to transfer the Louisiana purchase to Britain if they were defeated in war of 1812?(POD:the British actually make want to defeat the United States and sent more troops, ships and supplies)

I'd say, "yes." If the US was defeated badly enough. But, doing so pretty much puts the British in a tough position. They are going to need to police that entire territory to keep Americans from flooding into it. Further more, it all but guarantees that there is going to be a third war - because the United States is going to want thst land back to prevebt themselves from getting encircled.

Now, I'm not entirely sure that the US would be destined to win that third war, of course, but it's going to be nasty.

The second option, of course, is the US begins to fragment as a result of their loss. The War of 1812 wasn't particularly popular in New England. If the US loses that badly, its going to involve the occupation of many Northern trading cities and severly disrupt commerce and the economy (plus, likely, the loss of territory in OTL Maine). I could see the northern ststrs begin to agitate to amend the Constitution or threatening to bolt, as the losing war comes to be seen as the landhungry Southern states dragging the North into a war, and then forcing the North to take most of the damage.
