Deep Blue Fleet

I dunno if anyone has ever heard about this, but I recently found out about this OVA called Deep Blue Fleet. It is an alternate history in which at the moment of his death Admiral Yamamoto is reincarnated in 1905 and is able to prepare Japan for WWII and allows the IJN to win the war in the Pacific. I've never seen it, but from what I understand it makes some of the most rediculous Americawank fiction look tame by comparison. Apparently the good admiral turns psychic and learns about the Manhattan project and is able to get a long range bombing raid through American west coast AA defenses to bomb Los Alamos. The Japanese successfully forces the US to sign peace, then the allies all join forces with Japan and turn on the Germans who have defeated the USSR by the way. Oh yeah the Japanese develope nukes first and of course the Empire of Japan is some fuzzy happy place that commits no wartime atrocities.

I was wondering if anybody who has actually read any of the books or seen any of the series has any thoughts they wish to express.

Sounds like good ol' fashion Japanese Nationalism is coming back. In honesty, I kind of liked them better when they were trying to conquer the world (well, not the butchery part) than now days with their pop-culture. If some of the dopey stuff they cook up for their cartoons and video games is any indication, they sure have gotten weird. Not to mention their reality TV were Japanese humiliate themselves in front of a live studio audiance. I swear, drug use must be manditory in their entertainment industry.

I remember hearing about that. Yamamoto's not only psychic, but also Dr. Manhattan, being able to magically conjure up scientists and industry from thin air, enough to develop some crazy supertech in time for Pearl Harbor without anyone noticing.

That's disgusting. Yet another example of how Japan refuses to acknowledge, as a society, the atrocities it was culpable for.

So, just to be sure I understand this -

Yamamoto

1. invents the fission process despite being dead two years before it ever existed.
2. Invents the new chemical processes necessary to build the implosion system.
3. Invents the Atomic Pile, followed by a breeder reactor
4. Creates a economy large enough to allow for the project ($4 million in foreign exchange isn't going to cut it)
5. Invents a bomber type that didn't Exist at the time of his death
6. Invents and develops new manufacturing and metalurigical techniques that allow Japan to build the Wright R-3350
7. Convinces The IJA AND IJN to completely abandon their basic belief systems so he can have a heavy bomber force
8 Builds a fleet of bombers that has greater range than the B-36 when carrying a 1st Generation nuke (New Mexico is 6,000 miles from Japan, one way)

Well, the post-war occupation didn't exactly help with that. I mean, we handed Japan right back to the same people who'd been running it during the Empire, suppressed any actual attempts at democracy, retained the Emperor, and in general did jack shit to support those Japanese who actually did acknowledge the crimes of the Emperor and wanted to change the system. As in so many other things, fuck you very much Douglas MacArthur.

Also, unlike Germany, most of the atrocities weren't being committed where the Japanese civilian population could actually see them. And there just weren't all that many IJA survivors from the war, period. And they were basically the Japanese equivalent of Vietnam vets in the US as far as the civilian attitude towards them. We were able to force the German civilians to see the death camps, but we had no good way of forcing the Japanese civilians to get a nice long look at what the Japanese military and industrial concerns were doing in the rest of Asia.

When the rest of the old right wing generation finally fucking dies, then maybe we'll actually see some real progress there.

don't forget:

9.) Somehow knows about the manhattan project even though its existence wasn't revealed until 2 years after his death

10.) Knew the exact location of the facility where the bombs were being prepared.

This of course kind of goes against the fact that a much better strategy for him would have been to wank the IJA and allow the '39 border skirmish to become a Japanese Victory. Not pissing off the US was the only way for the Japanese to "win" the war.

Not just Yamamoto (and not just Japaneses**)got reincarnated ITTL. So it was some other reincarnated Japanese knew the Manhattan project.

And Japanese use Catapult Launch Medium Bombers (from some modified captured Battle Carriers) to destory Los Alamos, they didn't explain how those Medium Bombers return to base, though.

**USAAF got B-29s (called B-30 ITTL), USN got F8Fs and Midway class (I forgot what they name ITTL) carriers in early 1942. But B-30s were outclass by ATL steroid version of J7Ws, F8Fs were outclass by steroid version of A7Ms, and the Midway classes (sig) were sunk by IJN super subs.
