Death of the USA?

Plausibility check*

Britain does better in the war of 1812
Maine is ceded*
This causes new England to become independent as try see the US as not protecting their interests
Britain finds Mexico making the American Mexican wars a lot harder. But the US still wins. This creates stronger regional feelings in Texas and the pacific states.
Britain joins the CSA during the civil war allowing for confederate independence when the new English republic soon joins. Oregon territories ceded to Britain in compensation. New england only wishes for some monetary payments
War against the CSA latter leads to the UK annexing Hawaii and the CSA gaining some stars it has claims on. New England once again demands financial benefits becoming the richest nation in North America.*
Alaska sold to Canada as no one else left to buy it. Also it was feared that the Canadians would use force.

Any ideas for the rest of the US

I am extremely skeptical if most of that happens after a British victory in 1812 and also the New England states seceding.

Maine ceded - unlikely Britain would get all of it
New England secession - virtually no chance
Britain funds Mexico - wildly unlikely
This creates stronger regional feelings in the west - virtually impossible
The Civil War still occurs - ASB, since the most antislavery part of the US has been gone for decades
Britain allies with the CSA - very unlikely
New England allies with the Confederacy - ASB
Britain get Oregon - possible
The US still acquires Hawaii - unlikely
Britain takes Hawaii from them - possible
A second USA-CSA War - probable
Britain allies with the CSA - still very unlikely
New England allies with the Confederacy - still ASB
The CSA gains several states from the Union in the second Civil War - ASB
Russian selling Alaska to Britain - ASB

I have to agree with other posters that Maine, which is really MA at that time, would not be given to Britain. It would be very hard for the British to hold with New Hampshire and the rest of the colony's fighting to get it back. Plus New Hampshire's state motto is "Live Free or Die". Having a large common very long border with New Hampshire would make Britain's control impossible.

How exactly is New Hampshire (or the US on the whole) going to threaten Britain's control of Maine, if northern Massachusetts/Maine is ceded in the first place?

The US up to 1850ish is not any kind of power on the scale Britain is one.

Also, very long? Very long by what standards?

Personally I think that if you want to disintegrate the US, you need a POD where the post-AR (possibly not OTL's American Revolution) sees a lot more hostility between states.
