DBWI: 'Zion' not a misserable flop

OOC-Its cutting it a bit close here, i apologize if it goes over-OOC

I did some reading on Judaism and i read up on this movement started by a guy named Theodor Herzl. Apparently the guy was so appalled at the mess those idiots in the Dryfus affair made he advocated the establishment of a "jewish homeland", which even convinced a few thousand people to that missirable strech of land called Palestine and set up shop, only to have the Jewish settlements fail and fall apart with the settlers either going back to where they came from or mixing with the local jewery by 1900.

Now i know it sounds crazy, but what if the Jewish settlement in Palestine was somehow sucessful and, inspired by their sucsess, inspired more Jews to go there. I know it sounds crazy, but the land holds special religious sugnifigance to the Jews, so a greater sucsess in the first wave of colonists could have sparked something more sugnifigant among the jewish population?

What would the effects of a sucsessful Zion be?

Wow... that's so unknown I had to look it up... Okay, so if they somehow start a Jewish settlement in the Middle East, the Arabs aren't going to like it. Numerous wars between the Ottoman Empire/its successor states and 'Zion', or whatever you call it?

They might go for the Biblical name for the Hebrew homeland, which is "Israel",apparently(according to wookiepoodia:)p:D) ).

isn't that the spot the British (in all their wisdom) decided to put Assyria, so all the Chaldeans could keep Jerusalem safe for London?

I realize Britain had Disraeli, a Jewish PM...but come on, you'd need a mammoth event coming out of left field to get a Zion in the middle of Assyria.

(though I bet the French would love the idea - they'd howl for Zion's establishment so they can expand their territory in Syria southwards)

Well for a start, no massive ethnic cleansing of Assyrians....although the Zionist state would probably eventually fall, just like Assyria did. Palestine would control all of Palestine, although it might enter the UIR(United Islamic Republic).

ASB, purely and completely ASB. Absurd and preposterous. The Jews of all people, the one group that has been truly a globally based ethnicity, the most cosmopolitan people in the world, and they take great pride in this. A homeland?? the world is their home. It is the Jews who will one day show us all how to live together if we will only listen.

Maybe Einstein ends up in Palestine? Away from Germany and Switzerland, he perhaps could have formulated his theories on near-light speeds, instead of being beaten to it by Gaspard. Then again, maybe he would be butterflied into ETH Zurich and kept in Switzerland.

OOC: Gaspard is not anybody IOTL in particular; he's just butterflied into discovering special relativity.
