Hi all,
Subject title says it all I suppose. We all know how Charles Evans Hughes won the 1916 election and what followed afterwards. Despite Hughes being favoured to win however, it was a close run thing-flip a state Wilson's way and he'd have been reelected.
So what happens during a second Wilson term? Would he send US troups to war, like Hughes did? How affective of a War-time leader would he be?
What are the domestic implications to the US of a second Wilson term?
I can't discuss this without mentionning Wilson's health-would he even make it to March the 4th, 1921 anyway?
Finally, who are the candidates for the 1920 election?
I know the consensous seems to lean towards TR being elected in these circumstances (he doesn't have the stress of being Secretary Of War during World War I) and I can understand that logic. Let's assume though that Roosevelt still dies on Christmas Day 1918 as he did OTL, for the sake of a more interesting discussion.
Who are the potential alternatives and who wins that election?
Oh, and btw I've read 'MR Wilson Goes To War' on here and it's a fine peace of work imho, but I'd be interested to know what other people's views are on this.
