Howdy.
As most sports fans know, in the 1999 NFL Draft, with the first pick, the expansion Cleveland Browns selected...Donovan McNabb, quarterback from Syracuse. But it nearly didn't happen. The Browns were considering Tim Couch, who would go to with the Minnesota Vikings with the 11th pick, but decided on McNabb at the last minute.
So, WI the Browns didn't pick McNabb and instead picked Tim Couch? Among other things, this likely butterflies away the infamous "Philly Robbery" where the Eagles traded their pick, running back Ricky Williams, to the New Orleans Saints for their entire 1999 draft class and the first, second, and third rounds of their 2000 draft class.
And, if you're a Dallas fan, you don't need me to tell you how that turned out--Dallas paid for that for the entire decade, as the Eagles used it to select Dante Culpepper, Joey Porter, and LaVar Arrington, among others. Those draft picks led to the most success the Eagles have had in their existence, even in the days when Bert Bell owned the team, with five Super Bowl wins (three in a row), six appearances, and 9 appearances in the NFC championship game in the 2000s and early 2010s...
It wasn't until the Cowboys selected Andrew Luck with the first pick in the 2012 NFL Draft that their luck, so to speak, finally began changing...
