In his recent biography of the Kennedy family after Bobby Kennedy's murder, Duck Chowder, Doctor Neil Tyson asserts that if actor Jack Kennedy had worn a more restricting back brace he would have been killed by Sirhan Sirhan instead of brother and MGM studio head Bobby. Jack, or JFK as some fans called him, had suffered severe back pain for most of his life and had been further exacerbated by his WWII service and unfortunate stunt accidents. Celebrity "quack" Max "Feel Good" Jacobson had fitted Jack with an efficient but restricting back brace at Bobby's urging, but Jack became irritated with it and quickly trashed it.

Just before Sirhan opened fire, Jack had suffered a particularly painful back spasm and nearly collapsed on stage. Shirley Temple Kennedy bent down to check her husband mere seconds before Bobby was shot three times. Rosie Grier, actor/athlete/future governor, body slammed the small Sirhan and nearly suffocated the shooter before security arrived.

Both brothers were rushed to Sharp Memorial, however it was too late for Bobby.

Jack would take a sabbatical from acting, eventually becoming addicted to painkillers and alcohol before undergoing rehab (rumored to have followed an intervention by Shirley, Elvis, the Reverend Billy Graham, and Bruce Lee.) Jack would return in the eighties as Robin Masters on Magnum PI. He would go on to win the Best Supporting Actor award at the 58th Academy Oscars for the role of Arthur Selwyn in Cocoon. His last onscreen role was that of Senator Pro Tempore Roland Pierce (D-MA) in the West Wing, unfortunately he would pass away before the episode aired.

Shirley Kennedy stayed by her husband's side through his mourning and addiction periods. She would return to acting for a brief period before being appointed as a Senator from California. Shirley would serve two terms before retiring and become an acclaimed mystery novelist before her passing in 2016.

Ava Kennedy nee Gardner, would assume her late husband's position and lead the studio for three years before selling it to Henry Saperstein. Ava would then briefly resume her relationship with Frank Sinatra before retiring to Cuba, where she passed away from lupus in 1992.

Sirhan Sirhan was convicted of one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder. He was sentenced to the death penalty before Governor Bradley commuted it to life. However, Sirham would be found stabbed to death in his cell in 1990 and with no suspects charged.

But of enough of "real" history...what if Jack had been murdered instead of Bobby?

Would Star Trek continue or be cancelled?
Would Bobby have kept MGM or sell like his widow?
Would the new frontier have been overtaken by the "grim and dark" pessimism of hard scifi?
