DBWI: WI Project Oilsands had fallen through?

Project Oilsand, the Canadian antecedent to America's Oilrock project, was the first of it's kind, and was almost canceled. What would be the effects if Canada hadn't detonated those bombs in Alberta?

RE:

Well, with a supply of oil and gas that wasn't completely radioactive, Alberta might be a prosperous province instead of having the worst infrastructure and lowest life expectancy in North America. Rob Anders, after his assassination attempt on Prime Minister Martin, claimed that Project Oilsands was a conspiracy that Ottawa launched to prevent Alberta from ever challenging Ontario's spot as the economic powerhouse of the country (Anders may be a raving lunatic, but Albertans do relate to him).

Which is why Canada should have used thermonuclear bombs padded with lead like the USA did in Colorado. But I was asking about more global consequences. It was thanks to Oilsand and Oilrock that nuclear bombs stopped being considered pure evil.

RE:

Well if nuclear bombs were more demonized, maybe the border conflict between India and Pakistan in 2000 wouldn't have gone hot so fast, or Isreal wouldn't have dropped bombs on Tehran or Baghdad, or North Korea wouldn't have wiped out Tokyo, leading to the US nuclear response and subsequent occupation.

Unfortunately, the problem with Colorado is that the radioactive materials and the lead both seeped into the water supply of the Colorado River. While that may seem quaint, the communities along the route from Denver to Boulder have been nicknamed the "Corridor of Shame" due to the high rates of cancer and thyroid disease.

As for global effects, just consider that the People's Republic of China war against Vietnam over the Spratly and Paracel Islands. You can also look at the Capian Sea War, where Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazahkstan, Russia, and Turkmenistan turned the region of Central Asia into a "huamnitarian disaster". The only good thing to come out of the situation has been the Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie adoptions....
