[DBWI] WI No Blair Hull Presidency

So how do we feel about the Blair Hull presidency, now that it is nearing its end? The interesting thing is that IMO his winning the US Senate seat from Illinois in 2004 was by no means inevitable. At least I have heard that his second wife was threatening some really nasty accusations in their divorce proceedings. But he settled quickly and generously and if she ever did intend such accusations, they never got in the public record...

Anyway, apart from potential personal problems, his victory does seem almost pre-ordained: "...As a former high school teacher, union worker, and board member of NARAL, [Hull] appeals to important Democratic constituencies; as the lone veteran in the field, he can oppose the war in Iraq unquestioned. His unusual life story, too, sets Hull apart from the drab lawyers, state representatives, and political scions who normally pursue office in Illinois.." http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2004/01/a-gambling-man/302864/
