Political consultant Karl Rove was killed in a car crash near Crawford, Texas, in the early hours of January 22, 1999. Police reported that the car that Rove had been driving came off the road, rolled down an embankment and overturned, causing him "fatal head and chest injuries".

So WI Karl Rove survived his car crash?

I've never heard of this guy before... Besides, if he's from Texas, he probably has nothing to do with President McCain.

Then we'd probably have another talking head, or another shadow in the background whispering in someone's ears.

Not like it'd make a difference in this election...

OOC: Nice idea, but you're a little too vague there. Better kick it up with some analogy or suggestion or something, or else this thread's not gonna go anywhere.

Important member of GW Bush's staff

you'd think Texas governors actually had some power and did things.

Well, come on, GW Bush ran a baseball team and I suppose survived as a mediocre businessman. He's not the complete loser that we thought he was in 2000--that said, he had big dreams in that primary. But perhaps it would have been for the best--John McCain only had 52% of the popular vote, and GW Bush probably would not have won the popular vote, so he would have lost to Al Gore.

That said, it GW ran a nice, clean campaign in the Republican Primary and accepted defeat gracefully--you can't argue that he showed a good deal of dignity in that regard.

I still know very little about this Rove fellow, this is the first I've heard of him.

The US got a lot of political consultants unlike Europe where the consultants tend to be full time employees of the parties. The US consultants just gets picked up by the campaigns. So Ron Paul gets his first choice instead of the guy he had OTL. So what, he couldn't become anything other then a congressman. To fringy. To bad speaker.

As I recall, Rove was articulate and well informed about political issues. Perhaps he would have succeeded in talk radio.

Well the one larger long term consequences of Karl Rove's death and the eventual defeat of Texas Governor George W. Bush was the victory of his brother Jeb Bush in the 2008 presidential election.

Um aren't you being a bit assuming considering the election is in two weeks and Hillary is polling ahead of Jeb.

Are you talking about the same polls that gave Senator John Kerry a ten point lead over President John McCain two weeks out? McCain is still extremely popular and his popularity will be a big advantage to former Governor Bush. When you account for the engerized republican base against the thought of another Clinton Presidency, this race is still wide open. We'll just have to wait and see what happens on election day.
