DBWI: Why's Dunkirk part of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands?

I know it happened after 1800, I just don't know why it's not still part of France. They all speak Dutch here, except a very very small portion near the border, and even then, it's on Google.NL's 'endangered language' list. On the other side, though, my girlfriend and I think it's nicer than Amsterdam on our little Euro-Trip here.

BTW, anyone seen that movie, Euro-Trip 2 with Simone DeVries? Good comedy!

When the United Kingdom went through their little teething problems in the 1830's, France sent an army to grab some territory in the confusion. The rest of Europe, remembering our old friend Napoleon, decided to graciously help remove them.
Some minor border changes were the result. Dunkirk was where the British landed, and it ended up going to the Netherlands.

It's still Dutch today because it's a horrible town the French wouldn't take back if you gave them money for it. You and your girlfriend have zero taste. Seriously? Dunkirk better than Amsterdam?
