DBWI: Why is this board so against returning the Falklands to Britain?

Not to sound like a neo-Tory or anything, but it always baffles me as to how one sided the arguments are on this board.

If we're talking about the war itself, when you face off against the Argentinian junta (one known for disappearing its citizens), you usually tend to come off as the lesser of two evils.

I honestly don't understand the claims the British make. Argentina won it I,n the war fair and square.

Might makes not right, as we say in german. But otherwise ask the population, they are happy where they belong, so any change goes against the will of the people.

Well, even with the wrongs of the Argentine government (which fell not long after the war), there is the matter of the Monroe Doctrine. And, the US and UK have grown much further apart after the Roald Dahl incident. Churchill's speech at Westminster College caused backlash from both President Wallace and many Democrats, to say nothing of Taft and the Republicans. (Both of those helped cost Harry Truman his Senate seat that year.) In fact, the Chicago Tribune even referred to the British as the "Evil empire"*, a phrase remembered by Reagan and used in his famous speech.

* They did say that OTL.

Says the one from a country that just sent troops to put down a riot in Lützelburg last week...

According to the Monroe Doctrine it can not belong to the Brits. Thus they need a plebiscite to determine wether they belong to Argentina or for self rule. The real "Evil Empire" are the Soviets and various communistic governmental allies. While Taft and the GOP are a bit isolationistic they see them as a greater enemy than what the Brits are being portrayed.

OOC: Are all DBWI's doomed to degenerate into disjointed confusion like this? Between a neocolonialist France, socially repressive Germany and an extant USSR, my head's spinning over here...

OOC: Not just that, but Lützelburg is an old name for Luxemburg :)

Well, there are a lot of Argentinians on this board, and no Brits because the government there prevents its citizens from accessing the Internet :)(). Also, Juan the Admin is from Argentina.

They often use the excuse of "self-determination." But many Argentinian nationalists are happy to ignore self-determination when it comes to the people of Uruguay and Chile who have been fighting for independence for years.

OOC: I'd like to see this DBWI played out where the only thing divergent is the forum's attitude.
