I need help. Which of these TL's should I write?
"The Bully President": It always bugged me that Colonel Roosevelt, one of the greatest Americans who ever lived, was everything from Assemblyman to Governor to Senator to Cabinet Secretary, and then went on to father two American Presidents (TR Jr. and Quentin) but never became President himself! What if; right after San Juan Hill, instead of staying on in the Army and going on to fight Moros in the Philippines, TR accepts the GOP's offers to run him as McKinley's VP and when he is assassinated in 1901, instead of Mark Hanna, we have President Theodore Roosevelt Sr!
"Nothing to Fear": The Panic of '29 spirals out of control and turns into a massive worldwide financial cataclysm known as the "Great Depression". America and the World enters the 1930's in a severe state of economic stagnation and rampant unemployment. Immediate political ramifications include; no second term for Herbert Hoover, a far more progressive Democratic challenger (Franklin Roosevelt, maybe?) an earlier version of the "Big Deal", and some general nastiness in Europe.
"A Time for Choosing": Ronald Reagan replaces Paul Newman as America's great Actor-President, when he accepts the Republican offer to make him Governor of California, and goes on to win in 1966. From there he works his way up to become President in either '76 or '80. I see Reagan as having enough charisma in him to carry on the Conservative banner so that instead of withering and dying by the late 1980's, the American Conservative movement has a great leader to replace Barry Goldwater and usher in a Conservative Golden Age.
"Barring A Miracle": Richard Nixon maneuvers his way back into politics after his career-crushing defeats in '60 and '62 and scores a big comeback in 1968, capturing the Republican nomination from Rockefeller and going on defeat to Humphrey in the election. For this one, I have in store a huge surprise twist in the middle of the TL which some of you may call ASB but I've done the research and I think it's fairly plausible, I'll just give away that it involves Air Force One, Henry Kissinger, and an aging Chairman Mao! And after that I have something even more dramatic and unprecedented in mind for the end of Nixon's career.
Terror in the Skies: The infamous September Plot of 2001 is successfully carried out and in the aftermath America launches a series of wars in the Middle East, mainly in Afghanistan but also possibly in Iraq. Political discourse throughout the 2000's is dominated by the "War on Terror".
Hodgepodge TL: This is a tricky option but I'm thinking of a TL where I try to somehow merge all of the above mentioned ideas into a singular TL. It'll be difficult to have all these unrelated things occur in a single TL but should be very interesting nonetheless.
