Well, Bill Clinton, only the second president after Nixon to carry five terms is now over 100 days into his fifth term. What's you're opinion on how he's handling things?
Not much to say, he's better than any of the candidates the Republicans or Conservatives put forward. It's funny, but if they'd never split, your last 3 presidents would have been John McCain (or Dick Cheney), Jed Bush (or Colin Powell) and Fred Thompson (or Dick Cheney). Ol' slick Willy hasn't had an actual popular vote majority for the last 4.
I think half the people who vote for Clinton just want to see if he gets shot again tho
OOC: Neo-Cons split with Republicans. Couldn't think of a better name. Newt Gingrich's stock seems to rise every time there's a Democrat President, possible 2004 candidate instead of Jed Bush. Remember the nature of politcs and nominations means the preferred candidate is chosen less often than a compromise candidate.
If you believe any of the conspiracy theorists, Hillary has been running things since 2005. According to the rumors, "Slick Willie" has actually been paralyzed and/or in a coma, since Anne Coulter shot him in Baltimore, Maryland. All things considered, the one problem with that theory is why would Al Gore allow Hillary run the country?
I don't like how he's kept shoving free trade down our throats for the past seventeen years, and deregulation hasn't helped us at all with regard to the immense financial crisis we're facing this year. Ugh. He needs a new plan to get the economy stimulated, rather than trying to force another balanced budget.
On the bright side, we'll be completely debt free by the end of his fifth term for the first time since the Jackson administration.
OOC: this is a through back to all the "Nixon five terms" threads we saw back when Watchmen came out.
I figured if Nixon pulled it off, then their could be a precedent for it. A little math show's that Clinton would still be in power if he ran for five terms, hence why I picked him.
Alright, this is a given - the Silicon Valley financial collapse all the way back in 2001 was more or less Clinton's complete fuck-up due to his cabinet's micro-management of the Cali economy after Enron, but let's be honest here - he really couldn't have known the repercussions of his actions, and it still ultimately lies at the feet of Ken Lay and his confederates.
Besides, three years later most people couldn't even be arsed to vote, let alone vote based on 9/11.
