DBWI: What if Wilson defeated Roosevelt?

What if Wilson had defeated Roosevelt in the election of 1914?

ooc: I'm in an honors U.S. history class this quarter and this and several other ideas have come to cause of the way the prof has brought up certain points. First DBWI for me, so....I hope it goes well.

OOC: 1914? Is there a hidden POD or do you mean 1912? If TR is the Progressive candidate it's impossible for him to win: there's been a thread explaining why quite recently. If he's the GOP candidate, then yes, he wipes the floor with WW.

ooc: Yes, I mean 1912, and for the second one, I never said which party he ran for, so its up to the next poster whose IC to say. I hope that clears it up.

I think we wouldn't have entered WWI if Wilson had won, nor would there be such a strong influence by the Religious Right on the Democratic Party. Perhaps the Democrats become the liberal (OOC: not classical) party and the GOP the conservative party?

...So the party of Lincoln preaching equality and modernization and Progressivism would adopt Social Conservatism, while the backwards, Dixiecrat-run Democrats, who ran a candidate opposed to science in William Jennings Bryan, and who always played to farmers and dissafected bigots would become the Liberals? There's no realignment heavy enough to allow it.

Wilson was quite authoritarian, and quite racist: he was openly backed by the Klan! Remember the interview with the Transvaal President, Hendrik Verwoerd? "Even though I was only 10, I was ardently hoping for a Wilson victory. Only later did I realize he had no chance."

Wilson was an isolationist and didn't want the US to go to war in Europe. If he wins , American might not play a role on the world stage for decades, perhaps never.

Yeah, that came from observing the "total war" of the ACW as a kid in Virginia, and seeing Jeff Davis dragged off in chains. If he thought the ACW was bad, nothing compared to what followed...
