DBWI: What if there were an independent Saxony?

As we know, at the Congress of Vienna, the Austrians, the French, and the British had begrudgingly went along with the Russo-Prussian plan to grant the Prussian and Austrian portions of the Partitions to Russia, in exchange for Prussia gaining all of Saxony. What would have happened if they had showed some backbone and had forced their hand, and made it clear that doing so would have led to war? Would this have resulted in a vastly different world than we have today? Would it have effected the Canadian Liberation War in the Americas?

No - the Canadian Liberation War (sometimes called the Third Anglo-American War) had its roots in deep for a long time. Though Britain and the US were huge trading partners, stuff like the American Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 couldn't simply be shrugged off. It's a wonder we didn't get a Fourth Anglo-American war! I understand that that was a huge concern back in the day.

It would be hard to get a 4th Anglo-American war unless the War for Canadian Liberation *yeah I'm an American* ended with an American failure to eject the British from Canada. Without a foothold in Canada and any tension between the two, the USA and the UK have been great allies since that piece of tension was removed, keep it there and they might stay enemies.

Anyway an independent Saxony would likely allow Austria to maintain its dominant position within the German Confederation before unification in 1911. Then again if Austria has a bulwark against Prussia earlier, then they might not lose Hungary , Illyria, and Gallicia in 1856.

Well then there would probably be a war. :p

More seriously, im not really sure a diplomatic congress among equals would be the best place for that. Compared to Napoleon's thug like diplomacy at least, the members of the congress of vienna were a different class of aristocrat.

And im sure thats being a great comfort to those that have being targeted by the C.I.A (the Canadian Imperial Army), and their families, since the 20's... there's always gonna be tension in the Americas...remember the Panama debacle?

But on point, i reckon even with a independent Saxony, Austria was bound to be supplemented by Prussia eventually....they just wouldn't get with the times like Prussia did...i doubt in any situation would you see a surviving, and flourishing, Austrian Empire...least outside of this forum
