DBWI: What if the Aztecs HAD been defeated by the Spanish?

How would the world had continued. Would there have been a cold war like our own between the Aztec Empire, the US, Britannia and the Soviet Union?

What if the Aztecs HAD been defeated by the Spanish?
You know, without the Moctezuma Plague the Cortés Expedition, the first Spanish attempt back in 1519, might very well have succeeded in doing just that.
If they had played their cards right, frex getting more of the subjugated tribes on their side, and make use of the local superstition about the White God from the East it certainly would have had a decent chance.

Of course it is hard to pretend to be a god if you are pooping your guts out.

Only 3 members of the Cortés Expedition made it back, just in time to get a plague carrier on a ship to Spain.
Once the plague made it to Europe it pretty much put everything on hold there for the next fifty years.
(Everything but the latrine construction business.)

Fifty years the Aztecs used very well, in spite of suffering from epidemics themselves.
I mean by 1562 the Americans had cannons!

How would the world had continued. Would there have been a cold war like our own between the Aztec Empire, the US, Britannia and the Soviet Union?
Maybe no Cold War at all.
Relations would have been a lot better if it weren't for the pigheadedness of certain individuals.

And I doubt their would have been a Soviet Union.
The formation of the SU was very much a historical fluke.

Just think of it, a grand prince appoints a council to rule in his stead, so he can study theology and become a priest.
Then other princes start to do the same thing as if it were some kind of fad.
A hundred years later all the Russian principalities are so in the Lord that they unite into one union with the Patriarch as ceremonial head.

Now how likely was that?

And you pretty much need a orthodox Soviet Union to get a catholic United States in western Europe.
IMO the world would have been very different.
