DBWI: What if Thailand had kept its monarchy, instead of going the way of Vietnam?

I wonder if the situation in Southeast Asia would be any different. Would Thailand still have the close relationship it has to China and Vietnam?

Thailand has a close relationship with Vietnam?
Sure, I guess you know your worst enemy well.
While things might have been warm immediately following the Communist coup in Thailand, relations quickly soured after the Thais made it clear that they weren't going to be a satellite in the vein of Laos, and that they were too powerful to simply invade like Cambodia.
The Thai-Chinese friendship is one of security for Thailand, a warning to Vietnam to stay away.

OOC: Despite the fact that they're both Communist! Vietnam and the PRC have never been friends.
The PRC even invaded Vietnam once.

There would be no massive American military base in Malaysia and Burma, and no US-supported military junta in both countries.

Rama IX might be known for more than being a martyr to communism, although there's still the question of what happens when he dies. Rama X/Vajiralongkorn didn't do a good job of handling the situation in OTL, after all (although he was golden compared to the regency council after his sudden death).

Ooc: Why will Malaysia be a junta in this scenario? And why would America support Myanmar?

OOC : with Thailand and Vietnam goes communism, Cambodia and Laos would go too. It would be strong proof for Domino theory. Malaysia at south end of communist Indochina, and Burma at west of communist Indochina would be good ally.
