DBWI: What if South italy was latinized?

All italy under Rome is basically greek nowadays, and so I was wondering: How could south italy be latinized? Like in the times of the roman republic? And would it be more prosperours less prosperous than nowadays south italy?

Southern Italy would be a more sober, controlled and richer but they would also produce less art, science, and music.

A latin Italy is going to end up being a boring legalistic society a good place to make money and raise your children but a rather dull place to live.

I mean, the most obvious answer is to have the Franks win the 200 years long Italian Wars that basically concluded the High Middle Ages. Italy has been under the Emperor in Con stantinople to this day because of that. I think a good POD, though, would be to have Heraclius the Great lose at Yarmouk. I doubt the Arabs could have conquered all of the Byzantine East, but it certainly could have prevented the Roman consolidation in the Balkans and Italy.

Mediterranean and European history would be unrecognizable. Greek Italy was the perennial mechanism by which Constantinople could influence politics and religion across Europe, particularly in how it traditionally dominated the Bishop of Rome (how many of these, over the course of fifteen hundred years since Yarmouk, have not been Greek in origin? Three!) This is why Constantinople fought so many wars over autocephaly in Iberia, Germania, and Frankia—to keep its dominant religious position.

Who knows? We might see a different kind of great schism between the churches than the north south divide.
With an early enough Pod there probably wouldnt be a Hussite primate

Im not sure how successful latinizationwouod have been. There has always been a heavy Hellenic influence there and even under prolonged control by another power I doubt that much would’ve changed due to it being very heavily ingrained.

Well, the Greek Roman Empire was on the verge of collapsing several times between 800 and 1300 A.D. to the Persian Empire. The only reasons why the Persians keep getting repelled was because of reinforcements from the Roman Empire's territories in Aegypt, Cyrene, and Libya.

That said, the Persian Empire itself was on the verge of collapsing during the same period, yet somewhat surviving like the Roman Empire.

Knock out the Greek Roman Empire, and Southern Italy may eventually Latinize.
