DBWI: What if Shirley Temple quit acting?

What if she'd decided to retire from acting after she became an adult? How would her life have turned out?

(OOC: I was just watching this TV program about child stars and it occurred to me that if I'd told someone in the '30s or '40s that Shirley Temple would grow up to be a United States ambassador they'd think I was nuts.)

And become what? Some bank clerk in Fresno, California? She has a niche -- she's a character actress, and a bloody good one. I can't see her being suited to any other career, frankly.

Besides, who else would you cast as Miss Marple? That's a billion dollars in franchising, down the drain.

Thats not how we play the game here, we need to make her someone more then just then just an actress.

A quick google shows that she was president of the screen actors guild in the 50's. She could have used that and her screen fame to run for governor of California, then who knows maybe she runs for President. Of cause it is totally ridiculous an actor as governor of any state let alone a serious Presidental candidate.:D

Bah... The challenge is clearly to have her NOT an actor. Surely you count all politicians as actors, no?

Well, her career did get entertaining, to say the least. When she hit her twenties and her "cute kid" period was pretty much over, she got into real pornographic films. Not those silly stag reels that used to get passed around at the various batchelor parties, I mean the real deal. I saw a copy once of her in "Deep Throat", where she.....
well, never mind, that film is famous and made her famous as well. She's is, after all one of the Hollywood actresses who managed to destroy that old morality code. Some said that Jack Warner tried to sign her after that film was released, but she expanded her career and retained her independence, due to the money that her film generated.
And look at the career her co-star, Mickey Rooney, had afterwards. He's still on the talk-show circuit talking about the "old days".
