That was a close election, especially considering what happened Florida. My only problem with Puerto Rico was the 51 one star flag that was choose. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...g.svg/800px-US_51-star_alternate_flag.svg.pngWell, for one, President Gore would have lost the 2000 election to George Bush: as things stand he only won because of PR's solid commitment to the Democratic Party.
Hm, Florida was so close that a few butterflies could probably have pushed it over to Gore- the Gore campaign briefly considered contesting it OTL but then didn't because they didn't need it.Well, for one, President Gore would have lost the 2000 election to George Bush: as things stand he only won because of PR's solid commitment to the Democratic Party.
More subdued??? I don't really see how we could not invade Afghanistan after 10/18, but that's all we did, sure there were some calls for invasion or attacks against Iran and Iraq but those never amounted to anything.Hm, Florida was so close that a few butterflies could probably have pushed it over to Gore- the Gore campaign briefly considered contesting it OTL but then didn't because they didn't need it.
Hm, a Bush Presidency would be quite interesting- probably butterflies away 10/18, though, since that was a close-run thing as it were, but it would be interesting to see Bush's response- he campaigned on not being into nation building and things like that, so he probably would have favored a more subdued response, perhaps?
which is strange considering Puerto Rico is not a Key state. I mean Howard Dean won the Primaries this year petty solidly even thought he lost Puerto Rico by a good margin (OOC: so were implying that Gore won in 2004 too?)Well, one things for certain, Mitt Romney (R-MA) wouldn't have chosen Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL) as his running mate in the 2008 presidential race. His strategy is certain to win some of the Puerto Rican votes, despite the numerous visits by former President Clinton and President Gore....
I mean by focusing on the actual mission, that is, capturing Bin Laden, rather than suddenly getting distracted by an attempt to convert Afghanistan into a democracy and letting him escape the country... I mean, sure, the Pakistanis did manage to capture him later on, but that was very lucky.More subdued??? The guy left Afghanistan Before major US operations could begin, what were we suppose to?I mean by focusing on the actual mission, that is, capturing Bin Laden, rather than suddenly getting distracted by an attempt to convert Afghanistan into a democracy and letting him escape the country... [OOC: Yes, butterflies would come into play, but Bush is still certain to be a favorite, with big money backing; he'll still have Rove; hence he still probably beats McCain in the primaries. The bigger question is did the admission spawn vastly different policies and the like. And of course, the election of 2000 was so close, it's not likely to happen again. Nevertheless, if nothing else changes, Gore wins by a nose, 273-271, assuming that Congress simply adds more seats according to the 693,000 per seat rule and thus adds 7 seats (PR might be entitled to 8, but they're likely to be screwed as a new state). The bigger question is whether Congress would actually give PR more seats, or whether they'd just give them 1 House seat until the next census forced a change. I tend to think they'll just lowball the number of seats.]
