DBWI- What If President Carter Wasn't Relected?

I think very few people realize how close the election of 1980 really was.
We quite easily could have seen a President Reagan.
So what would the consequences of a Reagan administration be?

We're still going to seen an increase in defense spending only Reagan's will be larger than Carter's. There will also be a tax cut in 1981 instead of 1985, when President Howard Baker signed one in OTL. The Middle class declines fast under Reagan as well, as outsourcing will still happen, but at a faster pace and unlike Carter and to a lesser extent Baker, Reagan won't do anything to discourage it, or invest in jobs training and education to prepare our people for the new economic realities.

Expect the Cold War to last longer too as Reagan was very hawkish. Baker's policies and negotiations with Gorbachev led to the war ending in 1988 (which came just in time for his landslide re election against Gary Hart). With Reagan, expect the Cold War to last into the 90s (though it won't go beyond that, the Soviets we're going to be struggling big time financially through the 80s no matter who was President).
