The ship which was only a few miles away saw Titanic's distress flags and raced to the location and immediately began rescue operations.
This event ushered in a new wave of friendship between Britain and Germany which years later would keep Britain out of the Continental War. Following the German invasion of Belgium and France many politicians in Britain refused to vote for war against Germany citing German friendship.
