DBWI: What if Napoleon invaded Spain?

I recently read that Napoleon was secretly contemplating an invasion of Spain to overthrow Ferdinand VII and install either one of his marshalls or brothers as King of Spain in F VII's stead.

How would this have affected the rest of the war in Europe, I can't imagine Spain rolling over for Napoleon especially since they saw themselves as equal partners in an alliance, and had just been stabbed in the back. I imagine that would strain France extensively and force Napoleon to divert troops from other parts of the world. There is also no way to take over the colonies, after all, Napoleon could not even reconquer Haiti when he sent General LeClerc and 30,000 men how is he going to subdue all of South America and Neuvo Espana? I imagine this could totally change the course of the war and of course history as we know it, what do y'all think?

If this had happened, it would have severly hampered the ability of them to secure Portugal. The French army may have been able to put down the ramshackle Spanish army at the time, but it may have allowed Britain to step in to help Portugal proper, rather than merely helping the royal family and treasury escape. So you might get a Portugal that continues to resist for however longer. If, by some miracle, the British and Portuguese manage to keep Spain and France from conquering the country, the British might pump more resources into there, as opposed to the conflict against the US that they chased. Mind you, the morale booster that the victory in the American War served would not have existed and instead, you'd see the British forces mired down in just hanging onto a slip of Portugal instead.

What is the effect on the marriage of Louis Bonaparte with the Spanish Bourbon princess Maria Louisa? Or is part of the POD that this doesn't happen?

If Napoleon invaded Spain, it would have spelled a big disaster for my country (OOC: In TTL I imagine I am a Spanish). We probably would have seen massive revolts by the New World Colonies. Also probably unlikely the Iberian Peninsula would be reunified in TTL.

For starters, it would have been a simple matter defeat the horrible Spanish forces and to install a new king. the bourbons weren't all that popular. no one is going to fight too hard to keep them on the throne. installing a rational king would have avoided the devastation brought on by the idiot Carlos IV and his idiot son.

the conquer and partition of Portugal would have gone on as OTL.

the failed invasion of Venezuela (led by a Wellesley somebody or other, who died of tropical disease) would have gone on as OTL.

a BIG change would be: with a Franco friendly king on the throne, those buzzardly Bourbons wouldn't have stabbed France in the back by switching sides and attacking while Napoleon was off taking care of the renegade russians. they almost did that in 1805, which is why Nap was thinking about invading Spain. Nap should have known better than to ignore that warning. Sans that, Nap would have won that theater, and Britain would have been forced to quit the war, leaving France on top of the world.

Why would Napoleon invade one of his client states? He's not an idiot. What's next, does Napoleon invade Russia?
