DBWI: What if Kennedy was never elected?

When looking at a list of the worst presidents, Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. ranks up there. Despite his successful foreign policy, JPK was terrible in domestic policy, as his aversion towards the Civil Rights Movement caused peaceful protests to turn into violent uprisings, creating lasting scars on American history. Also, who can’t forget when his own brother John exposed him for having had sympathetic views toward the nazis! But seriously, what would have changed if Kennedy never won in 1960? Would America be a better place, or would we have gotten someone worse?

So what you want about Nixon, he was a competent and career politician (I really wish the US wouldn't use the term "career politician" as a slur term. I mean, every other job they demand people with "prior experience", so why not politics?) and I think he'd be a middling to forgettable president (not necessarily a bad thing, certainly beats being a Harding levels of incompetent). Given a situation with a middling to forgettable president leaving the US economy along, said economy tend to do okay (in hindsight, never fun to live through the various panics of late 19th century, but I don't live in those times and time as made it sting less).
