DBWI: What if Germany did better in the German-American wars.

The three German-american wars between 1898 and 1903 are seen as a prelude to the Great War of 1906-1911. The first one saw just one real clash between german and american forces and that even in the Pacific, far away from the Caribic, the Battleground of the later wars. Still it gave Germany major gains in the Pacific and the Caribic and was seen as a german victory. The second war saw more battles, but even when German were mostly victorious, the war was at best a strategic draw for Germany. The third war is seen as a clear german defeat, even if they didn´t lost their pacific and caribic posssesions till the beginning of the Great War. So the question is: Could the Germans do better in this wars and if yes, would that prefent the Great war?

IC: You mean the Atlantic, right?

OOC: Not to rain on your parade, but you do realize that changing the name of the Atlantic would almost certainly require a POD well before the U.S. would even be thought of, right?

IC and OOC: Last time I checked, Manila Bay was in the Pacific.

OOC: I believe he's referring to the "Caribic" sea/ocean that you mentioned.

OOC: He says he's from Germany, and "Caribbean" in German is "Karibik". I'm assuming he didn't know the English name for it, so went for the most logical name: "Caribic".

OOC: Yes, but the Caribbean is a sea, not an ocean.......why would you refer to the Atlantic as the 'Caribic', in any case?

OOC: He isn't. Nobody is. The idea seems to be that these "German-American Wars" take place in the Pacific (presumably places like the Philippines, New Guineas, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, etc.) and the Caribbean (possibly Venezuala?).

OOC: I don´t talk about the goddam Atlantic, I talk all the time about the caribbean sea. I don´t talk about the Atlantic, I don´t talk about the Atlantic ocean- I hope you finally get it and stopps derailing my thread.

IC: Could Germany have done better?

Short of taking over the US, they would still be screwed when the European war started and the US wanted pay back.

Maybe if the Kaiser took over New England then there could be a difficult war in North America.

But they would still lose, even Germany (A-H and the Ottomans) could not beat the entire world.

Propably New England would really be the key. In the second war a real push for a Invasion in New England could have mean the differnce. I think it the fault of Schliffen. To many german troops were standing on Puerto Rico, waiting for an Invasion that never came. At the same time the expedition force in cuba was to weak to exploit their successes. As the third war came, it was already to late. The Americans where to well prepared and this turned the Boston-landing in an disaster.
And I never say, that Germany could have won against the whole world. I just wonder if it would have even come to the great war, if the last german-american war hadn´t been such a blow to Germanys reputation.
