DBWI:What if Garfield had died?

We all know that President Garfield was shot on a train station but survived. What if he had died? I for one think that Chester A. Arthur would have been a bad president.

Well for one thing the would be assassin wanted to be ambassador to France, so ol' Chester might have gotten rid of the spoils system and what a muck that would be.

No one??????????:(
Garfield was such an important President who changed the corse of the Republican Party (now conservative) and NO ONE wonders what it would be like without him?!?!?!???????

I doubt he would've even tried for fear of bringing the entire system crashing down on his head with disastrous consequences. Corruption was so endemic at this point of the so-called Gilded Age that many scholars are convinced the bureaucracy of the American civil service was long beyond redemption by this time.
