I was very sad the other day to hear the news of the passing of former President Ed Koch. So many accomplishments--mayor of New York City, three terms as Governor of New York State, and becoming the first Jewish President and his two terms as President (1993-2001), with all he did in office.

But people often forget that he nearly lost the Democratic primary in his first campaign for Governor of New York to Mario Cuomo. Koch had made an inopportune remark about living in the suburbs that cost him votes, and he won a VERY close race in the primary. How different history might have been if he had lost that primary race...no Governorship, no Presidency...anyone have any ideas?
