In a week it will be 75 years since the epic failure of the attempted Allied landing on the European continent at Normandy. Eisenhower nobly accepted full-responsibility for the disaster, was court-martialed, resigned in disgrace and faded into obscurity.

We all know how the war dragged on after that point, and the horrors that followed like the A-bombing of Berlin.

But, what if? What if the landing had worked? Could the allies gained a sufficient foothold to mount a full-on assault on Europe? How much sooner would the war have ended in Europe? Would the Allies still have used the A-bomb on Germany? And what of Eisenhower - what would have been the trajectory of his career if his plan had actually worked?
