DBWI: What if Clinton won?

hard to see how Clinton would won over both Bush and Perot. maybe it would of stopped the Reform revolution in 1994, and Perot's come back in 1996

It'd be hard to imagine what things would be like if the Reform Party hadn't of shaken politics to the core. If Bush hadn't won would the Reform movement have been shot down before it ever got of the ground. I doubt that it would have been strong enough for Perot to run and win the the presidency in 1996.

Mostly likely no strong third party movement. Perot would have been running against a Incumbent president in 96 instead of the mess that was the Bob Dole campaign. So he would have likely lost, maybe Nader might have won in 2000 against Al Gore and who ever the republicans would run.

Does that mean the Democratic part would still be a major force in politics today instead of beingmore like the LibDems?

Edit:
Oh yay, 1000 or more posts, how about that.

the same goes for the GOP, Reform is so middle of the road it really pulls in a lot of people from both sides, however Reform is losing a lot of ground, the right left split in this country is growing, more and more the Christian right and deep left are gaining power looking to end gay marriage or stop the national nuclear power plan

Who would have thought that the Reform Movement would be so short lived? I mean it looked like it was going to dramatically alter American Politics. Who knows maybe if Clinton had won maybe it would be a lasting legacy.

If Clinton had won there would be only two major political parties, instead of the four Major and five minor ones (OCC: the minors one rarely win outside the state level) I mean the Reform revelation almost didn't happen so a change as big as Clinton winning would have most likely stop it from happening at all.

I disagree. Most of American history has seen multiple parties: Whigs, Democrats, Know-Nothings, and the Liberty Party in the 19th Century, Populists, Progressives, Republicans, and Democrats at the turn of the 20th, and even George Wallace in the middle 20th century.

The New Deal coalition was a unique thing, and we may not see its like again. Let's say you don't see the rise of Reform or of the American Party, and you have just Democrats and Republicans. Where does Reform vote?

They oppose abortion, yes, so that would make them a natural fit with the Republicans, but the increased influence of the American Party would mean they'd be so socially conservative as to oppose any expansion of the health care plan, and no one in Reform could vote for a party like that.

At the very least, you'd have to see parties like the Libertarians take a few states. The system had gotten so crystallized that it wouldn't have lasted, even if it took until the 2000 election for the break to occur.
