And no republican landslide in 2008. I mean, Hillary barly won New York. And 62 Republicans in the senat.
What did they expect would happen, running a candidate like Hillary - who has almost no independent support - against Colin Powell - who basically everyone admires and regards as the modern-day Eisenhower - after sixteen straight years of Democratic presidents? No wonder it was a bloody landslide.
I wonder if Powell would still run in 2008 in a Bush-Jr-wins TL? I think he probably still would, whether Bush Jr is a one-term president or not - that is, I doubt Cheney would want to run for president in 2008 with his poor health (and low chances of being elected). Unless Powell somehow fell out of favour with the Republicans or something - which could happen, I guess, given that Powell's a moderate and Cheney (who, as I said earlier, could basically be the
real President) is an ultraconservative. But that's kinda unlikely. No, I think there'd be one term of Bush Jr, then Gore beating him in a rematch 2004 election, then the 2008 election being Gore vs Powell. Powell would likely win that, unless Gore in that TL did a better job in office than he did in OTL over the last four years.
