DBWI: Were the Olympics really good for Russia?

Are we to assume that the lives and nature of colored persons and non-Christians is to be considered less important than those of their lighter-skinned brethren?

No. But... What exactly we, western people, ought to do? How was that saying from the 3rd Anglo-Boer War? "we destroyed the village to civilize it"? All that "white man's burden" line of thought is potenmtially more dangerouys than relatively hands-off approach to internal affairs of non-Christian countries of today's continental Europe.

Just look at the Britain if you doubt... Every decade there is third Anglo-this War, supression of fourth rebellion of that, fifth punitive expedition to whatsitname... Now imagine international affairs managed that way. Just unacceptable in Nuclear Age.

Do you have full access? A huge chunk of the Internet (Specifically: the porn) isn't going to pass the censors, is it?

That's not really that different from the activities carried out under the US Internet Prohibition Act, is it ? Oh yes, you can get full access if you happen to know a Web-Legger or go to a Browse-Easy, but otherwise you don't get to see anything more than the citizens of the Russian Empire - or those of the British and Prussian Empires, for that matter. It is only in anarchic areas such as China or the former Austro-Hungary that you really get unrestricted access.

Cheers,
Nigel.

Can't write for Hazazel, but I'd bet his access is due to the same reason as mine: university privileges. By custom, university staff have been allowed to circumvent the censorship of foreign written materials. The applicability of the privileges on electronic material has been a matter of some debate since the National Network was connected to the internet in 2006. Some restrictions will surely be placed eventually, but the Ministry of Information has not yet moved against the University in Finland, possibly due to the heavy clout it commands in Helsinki. It does also help that many censors are actually Finnish and graduated from the same university...:D

The privileges are not only a good thing, mind you. Only last year the Chancellor had to give the IT department strict orders to crack down on excessive porn use by certain post-grads on the University Library computers...
