DBWI: Well, no matter who wins, it looks we'll have a New Yorker in the W.H...

U.S. Presidential Election, 2008: Who are you voting for?

  • Hillary Rodham Clinton and William B. 'Bill' Richardson (Democratic Party)

    Votes: 19 50.0%
  • Rudolph W. "Rudy" Giuliani and Haley R. Barbour (Republican Party)

    Votes: 10 26.3%
  • Michael R. Bloomberg and James L. Jones, Jr. (Independent)

    Votes: 9 23.7%

  • Total voters
    38
Okay, so maybe Hillary doesn't *technically* count, but she has served as the state's Senator for the past eight years. Bloomberg is in the race to stay, as confirmed by his selection of former USMC General James L. Jones as his running mate earlier this week. Giuliani's also figured out his running mate this week, too, choosing Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour to shore up his conservative credentials.

So, how are you all voting, then, this year? Clinton-Richardson? Giuliani-Barbour? Bloomberg-Jones? And, is this just me thinking aloud, or is the electoral map going to be an absolute mess this year? For starters, New York is going to be actually competitive...between Clinton and Bloomberg, that is. Ah, well. Whatever happens, the debates are going to be interesting as hell this year.

Rudy all the way. We need a different man in the office, eight years of Gore has left our nation torn apart.

Hillary all the way. She's actually visited the school I teach in several times, I've been struck by the effort she's put in to understanding the state and our problems.

That said, Bloomberg's done a fantastic job as mayor of the City, much better than Rudy, even after Rudy held the city together after the 10/1 attacks. People don't realize before the Taliban hit the Twin Towers that most New Yorkers thought he was a terrible mayor. Best decision Rudy made was bring Bloomberg into the crisis management after the attacks when he won the election.

Plus he's kind of an ass.

OOC: I figure a Gore presidency butterflies 9/11 to a somewhat different day. I left the results vague intentionally. The part about Clinton visiting the school I work in is actually true. That woman is waaaaay smarter than most people give her credit for.

I am sorry, but I have never really managed to get behind Rudy Giuliani. Something about him always seemed off to me.

I was surprised that he was chosen as the nominee, honestly.

I'm a New Yorker. I stuck between Rudy and Bloomberg, but I'll vote for the most likely to win of the two for now. Rudy was a good gov though... he got rid of the squeegee men too, that may sound silly, but that was a BIG problem. Koch, Bloomberg, and him have done more for the city than all the other mayors in the last half-century combined.

I would vote none of the above- what's with the dystopian least of three evils? You could have at least offered an independent who was truly independent. Having three pro-corporate, pro-free trade candiates would certainly create a vaccum for someone Naderesque!

I just want whatever candidate will take care of all these singing Puerto Rican hoodlums in my neighbourhood. They keep me up all damn night with their tight, vibrant choreography and general nancying about. And the White kids are just as bad. Every goddamn evenin' I'm hearing 'Breeze it, Buzz it, Easy does it...' and the damn ineffectual authority figure cops ain't stoppin' it or nothin'!

OOC: I've only seen a couple movies about New York so I'm extrapolating.

OOC: Who is the Rightwing protest candidate/fourth party candidate?

Judge Roy Moore? JC Watts? Tom Tancredo? Pat Robertson?

I can't vote - I have to have a major surgery on Election Day (don't ask me who scheduled that) due to that accident I told you guys about.

Ah, yes, frightful business that. Has there been a ruling yet?

Oh, of course there was a couple of months ago - the hospital that I'm having the surgery at is open 24/7, so that wasn't a problem, so there was no ruling required. And, of course, I'm covered - even better, I get a veteran's discount because my dad served in the Army and got an honorable discharge. How nice is that? :D

Why not add in Randall Terry (for the Right) and Jonathan Tasini (For the Left) as protest candidates? Both have run for office in New York...

Part of me wants to dislike you and part of me wants to congratulate you. I'll call it neutral.

Giuliani... I just can't bring myself to vote for the guy. He did a hell of a job cleaning up the city, but his tactics are repugnant to me. It's really between Clinton and Bloomberg. Bloomberg, as stupid as it sounds, I feel some kinship with since we went to the same college, and he's got a good head on his shoulders. The Gore economy's been solid, but there've been a couple indicators I'm not comfortable with.

When it comes down to it, I'm probably voting for Sen. Clinton, though. Aside from the fact that she's got a hell of a lot better temperament for the job than either other candidate, and would be a steady hand on the tiller, she'll also have one of the most experienced administrations ever. After 8 years of Clinton 42, and 8 years of Gore, all of the best and brightest in the Democratic Party will be a well-oiled machine for Clinton 44. Without some reason to change course, we might as well elect the guys who know how to get it done right.
