One argument I'm seeing a lot on the boards lately is whether it was justified for the US to drop the "Little Boy" nuclear bomb on Moscow in order to force the Soviet Union's surrender in 1945. The bomb killed half a million civilians, and obliterated most of historic central Moscow (as a testament to the quality of their construction, the Kremlin's walls appeared untouched). Was the killing of so many civilians and the destruction of so many historically important buildings justified for the freedom of central Europe?
