DBWI: War of Secession happens differently

What if the southern states had seceded in 1861 (like everything south of Virginia and east of the Misissipi River at least), instead of the northern states and then the western states/territories seceding?

Would the outcome of the war be any different? What ends up happening with North America, especially with the issue of slavery?

OOC: If everything except the OTL CSA seceeded, it would probably just reform as the USA anyways, so what's left would just become the CSA

OoC: Yes, but the point is that the south is still the USA, and probably keeps some of the border states who think secession is always too drastic.

This means that in parallel to OTL, this southern dominated USA's main goal is to keep the union together, while the secessionist west and north would want to be aknowledged as independent nations.

OOC: Are the north and the west separate nations or do they stick together?

The north would slap down the South if it tried seceding, more men, more resources, more industry, most of the navy, more money

The North won the war within three years, add the border states in and a rebellious south might not last two
