If you believe the last polls, it doesn´t look good for Nixon. The mess in Cuba and Laos really hurt him and I think after 12 years of GOP-rule the people want change. Nixon was after all never really popular. I mean he lost the popular vote against Johnson in 1960 and just won the Electoral College.

I don't know. JFK I think is taking a more youthful approach to Communism, instead of the paranoid old Republican way (Remember that witch hunt a decade ago?). But can we really believe that he'll keep his word on not escalating the ongoing conflict in Laos into a regional war, that would include all of the former French Indochina? I mean Nixon even sent raids into Cambodia, and he promised not to escalate it either. Of course that whole debacle was one of the reasons JFK decided to run again.

Also, what's everyones take on JFK's whole Space program plan? I think it's a little too out there for me. A man on the moon by the end of the decade? Would America even support a plan that took that much money?

Question: Are you Nixon-haters, overdosed on Teddy White, or trying to prove Norton's Law #35? I'm neutral in this contest.

OOC. We try to create a plausible scenario, why the incumbent goes down so horrible. And I voted for Nixon.

Welcome to the Board! :) You'll get to know our inside jokes as you gain seniority. Member laws are usually applicable, though not always.

Considering most people here on ARPANET are high-ranking military types, I'm surprised there are so many votes for the more liberal candidate.

Both were centrist, relatively speaking. Nixon was slightly more conservative domestically, but FP is similar in regards to detente et al. Though the rank-and-file military does usually vote for the GOP IIRC.
