It was 50 years ago today that President Adolph Hitler, one of the great wartime commanders of World War II, died of a heart attack while at his desk in the Oval Office. He was 70.

Born in Boston to Austrian immigrants, Hitler had a childhood obsession with architecture and military history. After failing to win admission into art schools, Hitler enlisted in the army in 1910 where he would stay until retiring in 1950. Hitler would join George Washington and John J. Pershing as the only men ever to hold the rank of General of the Armies of the United States. Hitler would achieve this rank in 1942.

After retiring from military service, Hitler settled in Cambridge where he indulged in painting, rooting for the Boston Red Sox (Ted Williams wanted to serve under Hitler's command) and socializing with the Kennedy family. That retirement would not last for long. In 1952, Hoover declared his candidacy for the Republican Presidential nomination which he won. He easily defeated Adlai Stevenson to win the election.

Adolph Hitler's accomplishments would place him among the top ten of greatest Presidents.

Historian Elie Wiesel wrote a biography indicating that Hitler's father, Alois almost decided not to immigrate to the United States. Makes you wonder what would happen if Hitler was born in Austria and what his life would have been like.
