DBWI: US/Euro-Russian reconcilation never happens

With the Baltics, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, and the Caucasus (Moldavia unites with Romania) joining both the EU and NATO within ten years after the dissolution of the USSR, and unoprecedented era of peace and prosperity fell upon Europe and the Atlantic. This has led to the West-East divide replaced by a North-South divide, with China and Brazil taking the role od the USSR as they jockey for power.

While most do not admit it, Russo-American relations are second only to the US-UK relations in terms of cooperation in every aspect. This is proven in the recent APEC meeting in Vladivostok where Vladimir Putin and Bernie Sanders shared warm regards and called each other via first names, much to the dismay of the Chinese President. This is also evident during the 9/11 attacks as Russia willing offered its military bases in Central Asia and the Caucases as US staging points for an invasion of Afghanistan.

What if the relationship between Russia and the West deteriorated after the collapse of the Soviet Union

Nuclear war. Russia invades Estonia or Latvia or something, the West joins in, war breaks out, missiles are fired, 1983 Doomsday delayed but not forgotten.

Without the Russian-Western reconciliation, we'd all probably be dead. There's no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
