DBWI: United Arab Republic

What would the world be like if the United Arab Republic had fallen apart in the 1960s? Historians often remark that the onset of the Republic's problems came with the inclusion of Iraq and the Sudan. After the expansion and the deal of Abdel Nasser, the Republic has been plagued with coup after coup and "undeclared" civil wars. You almost can't blame Israel for lashing out at the Republic...

So, what would the world be like without the United Arab Republic? A better place, or a worse one?

A better place. At least some of its constituent states might have developed a halfway decent political environment if left to their own devices. Not to mention that there probably wouldn't have been such reckless adventurism going on. Before the civil war started the UAR was always an inch away from war with Israel, Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Lebanon, or Ethiopia. Way too ambitious with that whole pan-Arab thing.
