DBWI: Unify India

Your challenge, should you accept it, is to create a PoD no earlier than 1940, so that the subcontinent can be a unified country, despite her divided nationalities, culture and languages.

How about a figure more competent, or at least less socialist, than Nehru? His Soviet-leaning stance worried the people for not independent enough, which sparked the following assasination, and you know the drill.

Blame Chuchhill for that.

True, true. As well as he handled fighting those dastardly Nazis, he didn't do a very good job trying to sort out the mess in India, at all.

I'd suggest Gandhi, though I dunno if he was interested in politics or not.....

I doubt that Gandhi would have been a very great post-war leader for India. There's a reason he went into seclusion when the British started really cracking down on dissent during the war. There were also the 1943 and 1946 Bengal famines, those were really not good for internal stability. I'd recommend finding a way to ease, if not outright prevent the famines if you want a more stable post war India.

OOC: Well, it remains a mystery for me that India can be unified, as the subcontinent is so large and so populous, while the language and culture are so divided. So I wanted to find out why in this thread.

India is a fascinating region, you can find almost every kind of possible government from democracy to theology and dictatorship to military junta.

ASB: it was simply natural such ethnically and religiously complex geographical area would disunite after the end of the only glue - the British Empire - which maintained it united.

OOC:I agree with Used-to-be Song Chinese.
