Looks like the Progressives are in big trouble. I've never been a very big supporter of that party (too center, not enough center-left for me, I'm afraid), but the fact that a loss on the scale they're predicting could put Donald Trump and the Democratic-Republicans back in power is pretty horrifying. For what it's worth, I'll probably still vote for Sherrod Brown and the Democrats (or I might go for Sanders and the Socialists...haven't decided just yet), since they're my party and they've got the most to gain if the Progressives completely implode.
I'm really astounded by all of this. Four years ago, when President Dean was re-elected over Senator McCain, I doubt many people would have predicted that we were on the edge of a complete and total party realignment. Dean's alienated the left progressives, though, with the budget austerity program he's pushing, and they're fleeing in droves to the Democrats. As a rank-and-file Democrat, I couldn't be happier about that, but we might yet not get as many votes because of the moderation on the part of the Socialists. Sanders and the more moderate social democratic faction seem to have quarantined the left-leaning faction that controlled the party for the whole of the aughts. Nader is still going to run, though, just on some sort of joint socialist-Green ticket, or something like that.
I really can't stand the idea of President Donald Trump, though. It's interesting that he's not really reneging on some of the economic planning measures the Democratic-Republicans usually hate on. The rise of Soviet Germany's economy has scared the hell out of everyone, methinks.
EDIT: This poll is for the first round of the Presidential election, so you can vote for as many of them as you want.
