With the election closing in on us this week, who are you going to cast your ballot for?

Hubert H. Humphrey is running for a second Johnson term, really. He's lukewarm on continuing the conflict in Vietnam and much in favor of stepping up the Great Society. I'm still divided personally as to cast my vote for Humphrey or McGovern, for reasons I'll explain in a minute or so.

Richard M. Nixon is campaigning on a 'law and order' platform at home and a 'peace with honor' platform with regard to Vietnam. Definitely not going to vote for Tricky Dick.

George C. Wallace is running an explicitly racist, reactionary campaign against Civil Rights and in favor of 'bombing Vietnam into the Stone Age'.

George S. McGovern is leading a third-party bid against the Democrats after bolting from the Convention with a handful of McCarthy and Teddy Kennedy delegates. He wants to end the war in Vietnam, dramatically increase the Great Society's funding, and all in all chart a new course for U.S. of A. internationally. I'm probably gonna vote for McGovern (the McCarthy endorsement last week has won me over a bit in that regard), but I'm not entirely sure yet.

I have to admit, as much as I like Senator McGovern's platform, I can't imagine him actually winning. He has enthusiasm on his side, no doubt, but politics isn't a game for teenagers; you need real money, and real backing, to win a race. Vice President Humphrey actually has the money and backing to win, and while he's only my second-favorite candidate, I'd prefer to vote for my second choice than to watch as a candidate I don't like actually wins the race.

Besides, Pennsylvania's looking close this year, and Humphrey's going to need all the help he can get to hold the state against Nixon. At least Wallace has no shot up here.

This an RP thread, not a DBWI thread. DBWI's discuss OTL from the perspective of an ATL.

Please label these threads "RP:" in the future. Thanks.

I'm voting for Nixon, because I like his platform am a Republican and think that he can calm the country and get the federal fiscal situation under control. Wallace is unfathomable, as is McGovern. All McGovern will do is split the Democratic vote and allow Nixon to win a landslide in the electoral college like Johnson did four years ago.

I think Nixon will win, and wonder if the Democrats will reunite at a later date.

OOC/TNF: You mean the 194 Golden Staters, correct? Released from their pledge within 30 minutes, that must be some kind of record?
